FAQ's
Where can I find a hole saw or spade drill bit, and how much do they cost?
-
You can find these at your local hardware, DIY or home center stores. The cost ranges from $5.00 to $20.00.
Can I drill the hole without using the tools mentioned?
-
The tools outlined in the guide are the best used for the installation steps. You need a 1 inch hole exactly in order for the hose connector to seat and seal properly.
What material are the rain barrels made from?
-
The material is high impact Polypropylene.
How do I clean my rain barrel?
We recommend using a mild detergent and brush to remove debris or build-up.
Does the rain barrel need to be on a level ground to work?
-
Yes! In order for the diverter to function properly, the barrel needs to be level. Take the time to prepare the area where it will be positioned. Putting the stand on landscaping pavers would be an ideal surface. Make sure the ground underneath is firm and level. You can dig down and add gravel and tamp it down to build up a compact, solid base. Remember, when the barrel is full, the 52 gallon unit can weigh around 450lbs.
Can it be left out all year?
-
It depends on the climate that you live in. For freezing climates, empty it and store in a shed or garage. Otherwise, we recommend that you empty your barrel, place it upside down over the base, and place something heavy on top, to prevent it from blowing away.
-
What if I need replacement parts?
-
Yes, please use the contact information to the left to inquire about replacement parts.
What if the hose becomes clogged with leaves?
-
Detach the hose from the diverter and barrel. Flush the hose out with water or compressed air, if available. If you insert something into the hose to push through, you may damage the hose.
How do I know if my gutters are heated or not?
-
If you do not know whether you have heated gutters, check with the housing contractor or an electrician. If a downspout contains heating cables, there is a potential electrocution or fire hazard during installation. Make sure you know before you begin.
How much rain will it take to fill my rain barrel?
-
The amount of rain your Fiskars® Rain Collection System will collect depends on two things: The amount of rain that comes down on your roof, and how much roof area drains into the gutter and downspout where you’ve installed the diverter. As an example, if you have a 500 square foot roof section feeding your downspout, it will take about two tenths of an inch (2/10") of rain to fill a 52 gallon rain barrel.
